Timing mismatches can disrupt the pollination process, which is a crucial factor in food production and the survival of many ecosystems. In the oceans, rising temperatures and water acidification have dramatic consequences. Coral reefs, which provide habitat for thousands of species, are particularly sensitive to climate change. Coral bleaching, due to stress from high temperatures, results in the loss of marine biofauna and threatens life in the ecosystem. In addition, mangroves and mangrove forests, which serve as buffers for coastal communities and habitat for various species, are also threatened.
