Climate change is a global phenomenon that has a significant impact on the environment, economy and public health throughout the world. This issue involves increasing global temperatures due to greenhouse gas emissions, which originate from human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industry. The impacts of climate change are far-reaching, including extreme weather, rising sea levels and declining biodiversity. Extreme weather is one of the most visible impacts. Natural disasters, such as floods, droughts and more intense storms often occur due to changes in weather patterns. According to a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the frequency and intensity of these disasters is projected to continue to increase along with global warming. Vulnerable countries, especially in the Global South, experience major economic losses and threats to food security. Rising sea levels are also a serious problem. Coastal areas in countries such as Bangladesh, China and Indonesia are at high risk of inundation. This not only affects the communities living in the area but also threatens natural resources, such as coral reefs and fishermen’s livelihoods. Public health is also directly affected by climate change. Rising temperatures can lead to more cases of heat-related illnesses and worsen air quality. Infectious diseases, such as malaria and dengue fever, are expected to spread more widely in response to changing climate conditions. Countries with weak health systems will face major challenges in containing disease surges. Biodiversity is another aspect threatened by climate change. With 1 in 8 animal species threatened with extinction, the impacts of climate change are adding pressure to already fragile ecosystems. Changing temperatures and rainfall patterns affect species’ habitats and migration patterns, causing ecosystem imbalances that are vital for the planet’s well-being. Mitigation and adaptation efforts are very important. Global policies, such as the Paris Agreement, aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius. Every country is expected to contribute to this effort, including the development of renewable energy, energy efficiency and better management of natural resources. Public awareness is also key in dealing with the issue of climate change. Education about its impacts, as well as steps that can be taken in everyday life, is critical to creating a collective movement towards sustainability. Community-engaged campaigns can help reduce an individual’s carbon footprint through reducing plastic use, promoting public transportation, and participating in reforestation. Technological innovation has an important role in facing this challenge. Research and development of technology-based solutions, such as carbon capture and sustainable agriculture, shows great potential in reducing the impacts of climate change. International cooperation in sharing knowledge and technology can accelerate global adaptation. The climate crisis cannot be ignored. Collaborative solutions and collective action around the world are needed to build resilience and create a better living environment for future generations. Through shared commitment, positive change can be achieved in facing these increasingly pressing challenges.
