Baseball is a sport that invokes pride, passion and so much more in fans and players alike. The World Series is a pinnacle event that has produced some of the greatest moments in sports history. The 2022 World Series saw the first designated home team win the championship in six games, allowing the Houston Astros to claim their second title. Here are a few highlights from this epic series.
Game 1
In a game that featured some of the best hitters to ever play in the World Series, Freddie Freeman came up with runners on first and third and one out. Everyone thought he would hit a single, but when his ball hit the ground it looked like it had gone foul. Carlton Fisk waved his arms for it to be fair, and sure enough, it bounced and landed in his glove. It was the biggest moment of the game and perhaps in Series history, a moment that swung momentum the other way.
Game 4
With the Dodgers leading the series 3-0, New York needed something special from its last man in the bullpen. Fortunately for them, Don Larsen delivered. Larsen retired all 27 Dodger batters, including five future Hall of Famers. His performance in the series gave him the nickname “Mr. October”.
For a city that went almost 33 years without a Major League Baseball team, this was quite the night. A big, noisy crowd rocked the nation’s capital for the first time since 1933. The game was not as exciting as some of the other games on this list, but it was still a memorable occasion for Washington.
