The Masters leaderboard shows who is in the best position to win the green jacket on Sunday. Rory McIlroy is still trying to cap off a career Grand Slam, and Justin Rose is hot on his heels with a shot of his own. The two are tied atop the leaderboard after both shooting 2-under rounds.
The last time this happened was in 2011 when McIlroy had a four-shot lead heading into the final round. Then he fell apart and Charl Schwartzel won. He’s hoping history doesn’t repeat itself on him today.
2:45 p.m.: The final group is about to tee off. McIlroy hits his opening tee shot right of the fairway bunker, pitches to 18 feet past the hole and misses a par putt. Bryson DeChambeau is in the group ahead and hits a long iron to 16 feet, then drains a putt to make the birdie. He and McIlroy are tied at 10-under.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is also in the group, and his bogey-free 68 gives him a two-shot advantage over Corey Conners. The Swede is one of only three players in the tournament with a score in the 60s.
Davis Riley and Patton Kizzire have both finished their first rounds, with Riley making a par and Kizzire bogeying No. 18. The golfers need to complete 18 holes to make the cut. If they fail to do so, a sudden-death playoff will take place on the inward nine. This arrangement was implemented in 2004. Previous to that, the Masters was played over 18 holes, and only once did a full playoff go to extra holes, in 1935 when Gene Sarazen defeated Craig Wood.
