Formula 1 Standings

F1 standings – updated after every race – reveal the cumulative points scored by both drivers and their teams as they compete across a global calendar of Grand Prix races. The driver whose championship points total the most wins the Drivers’ title, while the team whose two drivers have the highest combined points takes the Constructors’ crown.

Formula 1 is the most elite, highest-profile form of motor racing in existence. Since its inception in 1950, the sport has sought to push the boundaries of technology in order to create an edge over its competitors. As a result, F1 cars often pioneer technologies that later find their way into everyday transport – from electric engines to active suspension.

The championship is governed by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and has become one of the most prestigious sporting series in the world, with the top three finishers rewarded with their names being engraved on a coveted trophy on the grandstand podium after each race. There has only been one unified world champion in the 74 years that the F1 has been running, and the battles at the top can be just as fierce as those at the bottom.

Dead heats in the standings do occur, though they have never yet been decisive. If a driver and team end the season tied on points, then their ranking is decided by their number of wins. If that doesn’t separate them, then they are separated by their number of second-placed finishes, and so on.
