The Asian Games are the biggest sports event in Asia and are held every four years. They were first held in 1951, shortly after the end of World War II. They are an important event that reestablishes bonds between Asian countries through sports and contributes to everlasting peace in the region. The 1st Asian Games were held in New Delhi with 11 participating countries, including Japan. The Games were advocated by Neru, the first Prime Minister of India, who wished to promote friendship through sport and contribute to the development of Asia. The current number of participants stands at 45, and there are unique Asian sports such as kabaddi and sepak takraw along with Olympic sports. The Games are organized by the Olympic Council of Asia, and all members except for transcontinental Russia/Soviet Union, Turkey and Israel (because they have a small area of land in Africa) can participate.
Esports will be included in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Eleven esports titles will be included, including Arena of Valor Asian Games Version, DOTA 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends and PUBG. The esports events were part of the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games as demonstration events and will now become medal sports.
Aichi-Nagoya will welcome the athletes and spectators with a hospitality that lets them experience the city’s rich history and culture such as being home to many warlords during the Sengoku period, as well as its unique local food culture. The host city will also leverage the city’s existing transportation infrastructure and technology to ensure efficient, comfortable and safe transport for all participants, including the use of JR lines, subway lines and public buses.
